A Moment with Star
I'm Starla. I live in Augusta Georgia. I am growing a culinary garden. I want all culinary herbs and veggies. My longterm goal is to eat about 80% of my food from my garden. I find gardening peaceful and rewarding. So, I want to create a beautiful space to go daily.

I am considering raised beds (in this case, with a liner) on the side yard where the septic leachate drains out. One possibility which can be really effective is a wicking type bed, where the bottom layer is actually scoria/ lava rock. A tube is placed into the rock and the rock is then covered with a permeable membrane such as burlap. The rest of the depth is then your soil mix of choice. The water wicks through the burlap and the plants are forced to grow great roots to reach the water coming up from the bottom.

Longtime organic gardener but new to gardening in the East. Looking to get back into vermicomposting. Might be able to help gardeners out West.
