- Muscle mass preventing from being relaxed and preventing easy hand and leg movement - Sinking legs probably for the same reason as above - Fear of water. Some may say you start learning in shallow water where your face is above water and leg can touch the floor but water anxiety is not something people with no water fear can never understand. I also had the same problem but gradually overcoming the fear. Specifically Coach Jeff's series on deep water can help overcome fear of water in shallow water also. - Techinique - It is very important to train with a coach who can train you as an adult who is begnning to learn. Many coaches assume they can train you easily looking at you but after sometimes they get frustrated with you beacuse you can't progress quickly. Mostly YT videos teach you advanced techniques like 2 beat kicks, side breathing which can be achieved only after many hours of practice. Better to follow channels and videos which teaches you as a beginner. - Avaliability of a affordable pool with less occupants. - Attitude of many men, specifically after 30 may be they feel bit awkard to train with younger men who may seem to have a quick progression in training.
Hey All! Newbie alert!
Hi All, I came here through youtube. Coach Jeff and Coach Meredith are really professionals who can cater to adult swimming. In many pools I could see coaches just teaching strokes which may help very few adults. Whereas Jeff & Meredith teach comfort in water, which is how it should be taught to begin with. I have been in to just 15 or 16 hrs in swimming. I really wanted to learn swimming as a kid but my parents being conservative didn't allow me, due to the fear that I may become over confident one day and venture in to dangerous waters. They are loving and I accept their fear as loving parents. But this prevented me from getting rid of the fear of water. I enrolled myself in the month of august 2024 with my 10 years old son in the local swimming pool. There I found the coaches approach was not suitable for adults but only for kids. My son quickly learnt basic strokes but I was suffering with many things. Their way of teaching was not systematic but it was like trying to teach 5 years experience swimmer to improve on thier skills. That's when I thought of self learning with the basics I learnt in my classes. Till this day I might have seen 1000 videos, atleast, learning slowly things and trying out in the local pool. I can't access pool daily and only in weekends which in a way makes my progress slow down. However, I am trying to overcome these limitations and become a better swimmer every time I go to the local pool. My current problem is I don't feel balanced in water when I start rotating my arms. I think this is because I coudn't roll on properly to the opposite side of my rotating arm. I am doing some core execrcise to strenghten my core and I try to stretch my legs and tighten my core while kicking, so that my legs don't go down while I am rotating my arms. I am seeking expert support to overcome this issue. Thanks & Regards, Kiruba
