Asserting Vulnerability is Hard for Us.
I get to be an industry leader. I also get to still be afraid of what I don’t know and nervous about new experiences. When we are seen as a key thought leader in our bar, restaurant, or industry segment, folks look to us (and at us, and through us) for guidance and confidence. This can lead to the unintended consequence of our self-awareness dwindling, like those napkins I knew I should have replaced. the consequences come along slowly, but eventually, we are left without the ability to clean up our mental mess. My goal is a vulnerability thread that can grow into a guide for leaders in the food and beverage industry to check in, keep learning and express where we may feel less strong than the public perceives us. The first entry is a little daily check-in that can give confidence and guide us to where we may need some support. This check-in can be used to plan our shift, our creative session, our mini binge on fast food...whatever happens to be our goal that day. 😂 Daily Check-in for Leaders- Who am I? What do I do? Why does it matter? If I explained my current initiative to somebody who isn't in the industry, would it make sense? When was the last time I singled out someone I work with for praise? When was the last time I put myself out there to receive praise? Would I work for myself?
