Best advice or tips you’ve ever gotten?
A few I’ve gotten over the years: 1. if it’s not going to break it what are we even doing. This was during a leglock seminar with Guy Lefebvre and he mentioned offhandedly, he won’t tap to pain, so make sure to apply it with the plan to break. 2. trust in your choke. This was at a Paul Sharp seminar, and it really resonated with me. All too often when I’m coaching and student has something locked in, holds it for a couple seconds and lets go as they think it’s not working, little did they know most of the time their opponent was just about to tap. Trust in your choke, if you have to, count out slowly to 5-10 seconds, more often than not, it’s working. 3. Last, I can’t remember who told me this, but the most important person in the room is your training partner so take care of them. Without training partners you wouldn’t be doing Jiu jitsu so make sure to do your best to not injure them. You don’t want to be that guy that goes 100% all the time, throws caution to the wind and injures countless people, you won’t have anyone to train with if you start to get this rep. What are some other tips or advice you’ve received?
