I am currently reading Practicing The Way by John Mark Comer and in it he says this: “This is the Gospel: God has drawn near to us in Jesus- us, we who are sinful, broken, wounded, mortal, dying, and incapable of self-saving, with many of us uninterested in God or even enemies of God- to draw us into his inner life, to heal us by immersing us within the fold of his Trinitarian love, and then to send us out into the world as agents of his love.” Through the process of believing in the Gospel and drawing near to Jesus, he shapes us through love and through grace (because we are imperfect sinful people) into people who can then extend that love and grace to others. Grace requires a lot of intention and a lot of patience, carefully pouring his love and mercy on us. When we experience true grace, it gives us the model of how to extend that to others which is a very powerful tool in the world today where grace is minimal.
