[MARKETING] Short reads to build your email list?
One big mistake we made (I write with a partner) with our first book was publishing with zero marketing. No email list. No social following. “Publish and they will come” mentality. Now we write in public, bring the audience on a journey, and launch with friends and fans to jumpstart. “Short reads as brand/reader magnets” We’re publishing the first 3 books in a new series soon. Right now, I’m putting together a “short read” to gather early readers, and build up a niche-specific email list. The story in the short read is about something that happens before the first book in the series. I’m planning to promote the short with a targeted “micro-budget” FB ad pointing to a book funnel page. Have you used short reads to build your email list? Beyond this strategy, what else has worked for you when you’re a new author or new to a niche and you don’t already have an email list or reader following?

[MARKETING] Short reads to build your email list?

I am currently facing this problem. The main reason is that I'm unable to write a short story. Every time I start a short story, there's a moment when I fall in love with my story and my characters. Then I feel like I'm rushing them. Then I start fleshing out the story into a full-length story (which is probably the worst way to go for someone who likes to plan everything beforehand). if you have any advice for a newbie on how not to fall into that trap, that'd interest me 😊

WOW!!! That's quite an advice!!! 🤩🤩🤩 I think you hit the nail on the head, it's called “overthinking and perfecting”. Even if I start with “zero emotional attachment”, it comes in the process because I'm always looking for perfection.... Finally, I've started publishing chapters of the story I'm writing on wattpad.com. It's a way of forcing myself to finish it. Regardless of the success it will have.
Who am I
👋 Hi, my name is Guy! I live in Montréal, QC (in the great state of Canada 😂) and I plan on writing a Romance book. I want to get these 3 things from the community: 1. Knowledge exchange (prompts and more) 2. Feedback 3. Emulation and sharing For fun I like to do these 3 things: 1. Buy Fountain pens, ink and beautiful journals & notebooks 2. Driving around… Road trips. 3. Learning... Any kind of knowledge
