Hey guys, I'm brand new to coding. This is a lot to digest, but Brandon's video is helping a lot
I just thought I'd introduce myself, I'm Gabriel. I'm a Landscaper / horticulturalist, and I'm looking at ways to develop a service / education app for aeroponics systems. I can go into details later if you want, but it would eventually involve monitoring real world sensors and saving the data for individual users, so the app can help them if they have questions about their specific system it's linked to and the crop data for optimization. The way I'm approaching this is by first learning by using a passion project as a testing ground. I have been playing a long form chose your own adventure type novel I write back and forth with GPT. I have quickly run into the problem of context loss and this kind of things, so I am looking into exactly what Brandon is showing in the Lang Chain tutorial. I will be looking into how to learn enough coding to get a system that can be coherent and contextually accurate no matter how long the adventure gets. It's quite a leap for me because I have never even used code before, but if I keep at it, I think I can figure it out. Then I'm hoping all the skills and knowledge I gain from that project will be directly relevant when I try to make the aeroponics help app. cheers

@Tom Welsh Yesterday, I started exploring programming terminology and began to understand why programming languages use words. I also tried different interfaces because using only the command prompt felt limited. I’m planning to use voice-to-text due to my slow typing and spelling difficulties. I learned how to create basic files and heard about various tools like Jupyter, VS Code (with extensions), Google Colab, and the concept of cells in Colab—though I’m still not clear on how cells differ from a simple command line. Right now, I’d like to work on a small text-based program. I’m very interested in creating text adventures and, later, perhaps modding classic 8-bit games. For example, I recall someone adding a mini-map to Metroid using JSON. I’m wondering if Python could be useful for similar projects. i really appreciate you taking the time to help me, it is nice to have a human to talk to during my learning process.

@Tom Welsh I rely heavily on speech-to-text when writing on my phone since it works better than my computer setup. Yesterday, I began setting up an LLM on my PC and learned an incredible amount in just a few hours—thanks to AI. The troubleshooting and coding I accomplished, which would have taken me years to learn, were done in hours. This technology truly lowers the barrier to entry in profound ways. By the end of the night, I had a Python file linking various components to test an LLM from Hugging Face. However, I realized my GPU (RTX 3060) couldn't handle the tweaked model I chose for a 3080. I'll switch to a smaller model and adjust settings if issues persist. Once I stabilize the setup, I plan to integrate RAG, vector storage, and automate it using LangChain.

I'm a landscaper, horticulturalist. I'd like to develop a service app to help people grow crops with aeroponics systems and a text adventure app 4 me.
