Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat available at Dutch game stores in February
According to Pokebeach, people in The Netherlands may soon have another chance of acquiring the desirable Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat (SVP085) promo. The promo was previously handed out at the Van Gogh museum, but the promotion was quickly halted after videos of the mania among people trying to get the card went viral. Pokemon’s official distributors have reached out to local game stores. Each store will get 100 copies of the promo and they will be handed out to customers spending €30+ on Pokemon merchandise. Prices on Cardmarket have decreased since this news has come out. The card was sitting at around €130-€140 two weeks ago. Currently, listings are approaching €100. What is your thought? Is this a good way to make up for the museum’s short distribution run of this promo? Will you try to get one?

Everybody is under the assumption that van gogh pikachu was a very limited run, while it is definitely not if we look at the psa report : we have had 18,758 graded grey hat pikachu since mid-september (https://www.psacard.com/pop/tcg-cards/2023/pokemon-svp-en-sv-black-star-promo/230299). Half of it is psa 10. If we take all of the other graded promos of 2023, we are at 20531. So our grey hat pikachu represents half of the total number graded 2023 english promo. Even the Mew from the UPC is around 3000. The "moonbreon", one of the most graded modern chase cards, is at 6,530. And we are only speaking about the number of graded cards. On Cardmarket, the very majority is still ungraded, and it is still a recent release. I found somebody estimating at around 30, the number of store which would receive the promo. So if it's accurate, 3000 more pikachu, does not seem much compared to the above numbers. Another point in favor of a high supply is that the price was already tanking before the new supply, despite all the hype. I will take one of it later for my personnal collection, but i am staying out of it right now or as an investment. The risk I see is the new of the release can trigger fomo from the hoarders/flippers, not realizing the added quantity is relatively small. They sell, and it makes the market realizes the supply is, in fact, really high, and the price plummets. Maybe I am totally wrong and am missing something, but I think the risk for it to continue tanking is high.
What do you think about the new Pokémon TCG Classic and its stunning price?
Are you considering buying it? Do you think prices will rise or fall? Its official price is €400 and they are already offers in the web even more expensive. I'm waiting the release to buy it for Christmas gift, although I haven't seen it in my usual stores.

I did watch the openings, and I was suprised to see there is a lot of memorable olds cards reprinted, not only the starters, and not only from base set. The cards (jap) looked nicer than what I was expecting too. Yet it feels very expensive for something first oriented toward playing (/sharing old memories with kids) rather than collecting. I do not feel there is enough hype for it to become the next piece of collectible, and as such be limited by what people wanting to play with it would pay for it (and not want it as much in japanese). For me it is risky : waiting for the market, and if I am not certain it will be a skip.
Team Red vs. Blue - Round 6. Can the Japanese Stamp Box beat this Shining Pokemon?
Time for the 6th round of Team Red vs. Blue. Team Blue - 1x Japan Post Stamp Box (including promos and stamps) - won the previous round and kicked out the Eeveelotion premium collection boxes. Now, can the Japanese Post Stamp Box go for a winning streak and beat this Shining Pokemon as well? 1. Check out the attached image. 2. Vote below. 3. Leave a comment and share the reasoning behind your vote.

It's a very interesting choice. On one side I am chosing the gyarados because of my fond memories of gold/silver, - and beating the game with this specific one -. On the other side, I would bet the stamp box will appreciate better.
Pokemon 151 UPC - Another Charizard UPC situation?
Last year we had the craze around the Charizard UPC. Pre-orders were going for €150, €200, €250 or even more. Then it came out, and Pokemon showed it had taken a different approach than with the Celebrations UPC. They printed, and printed, and printed.... and printed. Quickly the price dropped to €100 on cardmarket, which in my understanding is way below MSRP. Today (almost a year after release) it's still available for €100 😂 Now back to the Mew Pokemon 151 UPC. I see a similar scenario playing out. It's already being sold below MSRP (for €120) on Cardmarket and it JUST released. I mean the demand for 151 is insane, the product is amazing, but still... below MSRP within a couple days after release. I wouldn't be surprised if it dropped below €100 very soon. What can we learn from this? The Pokémon Company International has stepped up their game in adding more supply to deal with the insane demand. This is a good thing, now we can all get product more easily and enjoy the amazing cards they are releasing currently. This is also the role modern products play in the eco system of Pokemon. They are supposed to be readily available, get people engaged and into the hobby. The lesson Investing wise, is for me that it's not as simple as buying a UPC on pre-order and waiting for the value to go to the moon. The balance of supply and demand in English modern Pokemon has shifted from insane demand and low supply, to insane demand and insane amounts of supply 😅 All in all I do like developments like this. This is when the real collectors/investors that love Pokemon get to thinking and shift their approach/strategies and when the easy scalpers drop off cause theres no more easy money to be made.

I believe it will be in between charizard and celebration, if they did not provide a huge reprint wave. When I look at the quantity available on Cdmkt, it's way lesss than the quantity of charizard UPC availables last year (1/3 less, maybe more), and quite close to the quantity of Charizard UPC available now. It might not drop much more.

@Jesse Kroon I do not know yet, it will depends what is available. That being said, I am less fan of "usable" merch (notebook, postcards, tshirts). I prefer the "display pieces" types (so here mainly posters).
