Worst Advice You've Ever Been Given as an Artist...
For Drew and I, we were told many years ago, "Never work with your spouse..." and then another time, "Don't ever license your art..." and then another time, "Don't make prints of your art." All of these things are what helped us create success in the business of art. I'm so glad we didn't listen to this advice! How About You? Share below!

Worst Advice You've Ever Been Given as an Artist...

4 things stick out - 1) You shouldn't auction your work. 2) You should never use gloss varnish - I love the glossy look! 3) You should forget painting and stick to photography - you'll sell more. 4) You should paint iconic Newfoundland things (lighthouses, puffins, etc.) because that's what tourists buy here. I tried it for 1 opportunity that presented itself and felt sick to my stomach ... lol.

I will finally join Insight Timer to upload the dozens of visioning meditations I've channeled over the years. They're a great way to tune into intuition, but also to generate ideas for art - the art of living included. :-) I've had this on my list for years.
67 Days left in 2024! How will you make the most of it?
Only 67 days left in this year! What is the one thing you’ll focus on with your art? 👇🏽 Share below! In that amount of time there's Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas and New Year's 😬 For my art business: ✅Determine the exact dates I’ll offer holiday sales for www.drewbrophyart.com customers and how much of a sale I’ll offer ✅Send newsletters telling buyers about the sales ✅Social media posts (on @drewbrophy Instagram and Facebook) ✅Create & release new ads for holiday art sales ✅Do one LIVE open house sale for local buyers Our SELL ART WITH EMAIL Clinic starts Wednesday and I’ll share some of my email strategies for holiday there. In 2022 for the month of November we sold $81,000 of art online! Crazy I know…I’ll tell how and why in the clinic. And I’m going to try to duplicate that this year. If you’re an ART MONEY SUCCESS Mastermind member, you get access to the clinic free. 🙌 If not, you can sign up for the clinic. I’ll share the link in the comments below.

I'll be sending an email to all previous painting buyers (since 2014) this week as a Halloween treat - this will be my major pre-Christmas art sale. I'm thinking 25% off original paintings leading up to 2025. I've also been teaching in schools and will be looking into more schools bringing me in.

@Oliver Hojas Thanks. I created 88 images in Photoshop and sent 88 personal emails twice in the 2 weeks. Had 1 person take advantage for a $300 sale. Not great returns for the effort, but hey. Who knows what other successes that will lead to in the future.
HAPPY FRIDAY! What was one big WIN this week?
I love this question; my wise business coach Ralph begins every session, asking me this. It forces me to look for the good, even when it was a rough week! :) They say that the feelings of gratitude bring in "good luck" or just good things in general. So the practice of NOTICING the good stuff is important, if you want to draw more good stuff to you. FOR ME: I got a deposit to hold a painting! This was a big one - it's 72" tall and 24" wide, and it's been sitting around for years. It's an awesome piece (photo below) - the collector who bought it loves to pay CASH. He's one of my favorite buyers. October has been really slow for art sales (it always is) and so selling this painting on October 30th saved the month :)

I sent out 88 personalized emails to previous buyers (since 2016) that included a Halloween Treat of 25% off originals and a picture of their previously purchased painting (valid until my birthday November 12th). Within 10 minutes, someone expressed interest and then came to see the painting she liked and purchased it. The sale price equaled a meditation cushion & bench I ordered for my birthday so I liked the synchronicity. I look forward to more sales from this 1st time ever collector contact that was inspired by the 30-day challenge.
Yes or no ❓Black Friday Art sale?
My husband Drew hates when I make him do a sale on his art prints! 😅 But…. Last year we made 50%of our holiday art sales during Black Friday sale weekend! We offered 20% off everything at www.drewbrophyart.com and we advertised it through email, Instagram and facebook. It worked so well we are doing it again this year. This time, he’s not complaining about it as much. 😂 But he’s making us change how we do it. We did a social media post and sent an email every day, putting something different on sale on different days. It was a little complicated for us, so this year we are going to simplify it. I’ll share the details after we have it all figured out…. ❓How about you? Do you plan on doing a sale at all during the holidays? Or do you not like that idea? 👇🏽 I’d love your thoughts on it!

@Gaia Orion Yes, I did 1 year at the Visionary Art School with him and his wife during their first year there. But because the school hadn't gotten their government papers (they were delayed), I had to leave Europe after 6 months so spent a month in Bali and did a workshop with intuitive painter Flora Bowley (her style is so different than mine but what she teaches and uses, etc. is almost identical so that was great) and an "Eye of the Spirit" visionary workshop with Philip Rubinov Jacobson, Mantra Cora, and Wolfgang Widmoser . My last educational stint, which I like to do once in a while, was 2 months of Transformative Art with Dana Lynn Anderson at Ananda Assisi in Italy. All my journeys are on my blog if you're curious to see what we did - just use key words in search.
