Watch out for "6 figures" or millionaire
Even good people sometimes use these terms as a draw, but your antenna should perk up, frequently the Hallmark of a scam or just someone who is crassly materialistic, not really compatible with humanistic values, if those are important to you. Buyer beware. Just my opinion.

Well, I have to disagree with this one,, Lenore. I hope you'll read and understand why I talk about money so much.... While yes, there are scammers out there - and they are easy to spot - they are the ones who claim to know how to get rich but aren't rich themselves! :) But, here's what I think about the mention of money in particular: If you want to make money, you have to become friends with it. You have to get comfortable talking about it. You'll never meet a wealthy person who doesn't talk about money, interest rates, real estate prices, profit margins, lessons learned, etc. "SIX FIGURES" is a term people use to show what's possible. Many artists do not see themselves as earning $100,000 a year with art. But they are wrong - if you set up your art business with a model that works, you can make $100,000 and way more. Many of the artists I have worked with, earn well above "six figures" - some at the half million dollar mark a year, and one is even doing a million a year in art sales! I like to analyze what works for people who are financially successful - and then apply some of it to my own business. So I appreciate when people talk about money. Money is necessary to live - and at the least - to pay for art supplies! And for me, it brings me joy to be able to travel when I want, to buy all the food I want, and to give away money when I feel moved to do so. I personally LOVE making money (it's a fun challenge), but, it doesn't rule me or my morals. It enables me to do all the things I love, including helping others. In the last few years, I was very blessed with art sales and was able to help out two family members by gifting them large enough sums of money to change their lives in a big way. The bigger thing to note here is this: why does the mention of money feel bad to you? It's something to explore within yourself. Ask yourself, where does that come from? Who taught it to you? Does it go back to your childhood, or did you have a bad experience that stayed with you?

@Lenore Ava Jaffe absolutely there are so many hucksters out there! Totally agree with that. There’s one that “got” a few of the artists I know - this person charged $4,000 for their program. It turned out that the person was great at marketing their own program but had no idea how to sell art! 🤦🏻‍♀️ It makes me so sad to see people taken advantage of like that.
Time for a Snooze
I always said I would never do pet portraits because I didn’t want to get pigeonholed and taken away from my safari wildlife niche ….. I guess some rules are made to be broken.

Worst Advice You've Ever Been Given as an Artist...
For Drew and I, we were told many years ago, "Never work with your spouse..." and then another time, "Don't ever license your art..." and then another time, "Don't make prints of your art." All of these things are what helped us create success in the business of art. I'm so glad we didn't listen to this advice! How About You? Share below!

@Sheena Bulpitt if it doesn’t feel good to you, if you’re not in alignment with digital downloads, then you shouldn’t do it.
Something I love that helped me and how to do 30 day challenge
This is from Claire Paniccia that helped me figure out the ecosystem that would work for me. She recommended that you choose from one to two in each category, whichever are the most appealing to you. Click chart to open. Maybe you can screenshot or download it? Scroll down for info on 30 day challenge.
