How do you guys introduce yourselves at networking events?
I went to really, my first networking event in person today. And woah did I realize I'm an amateur at that setting. It's a lead-gen source im forcing myself to just get comfortable with. What I'm not new at is sales conversations and talking in depth about things - but when it comes to surface level introductions, wow am I bad lmao. I'm just so curious how you introduce yourself, and then when someone asks you about more specifics of what kind of videos that you do, what do you say next? The neural pathways from my brain have not connected yet for me in this area lol. I feel its because in a typical sales setting, I never talk about the videos that I do upfront, I have no need to. Prescribing solutions comes way after diagnosing the problems. Articulating specific benefits of videos without it being directed to a specific problem is something that I have literally never done before in years of doing this.

@Ceebz Gerard That's dope man, I'll check that out. I watched a handful of your YouTube videos - the way you're handling that page is really, really great.

@Dave Lisowski Thanks for taking the time to write all this up:) great insights here. What I've found for myself in the last six months is announcing myself as a "videographer" and keeping it super general with that introduction. That's usually enough to get someone interested because like 90% of business owners instantly recognize the value of video today. Which is totally different from 2018. Because these people are interested off the bat, they ask softball questions like, "what kind of companies do you work with? do you have an agency? what kind of videos do you make?" Questions I should have dialed in, simple answers for but don't! And there's a reason that this catches me off guard... I don't often have a conversation with other business owners who don't already deeply understand where my expertise lies. People that begin to talk to me see the Youtube channels I've built. They've read my thinking online, or know me because of what other people say about me behind my back. So these types of business owners begin the conversation with me at a much deeper level. Like in this group for example, I already understand what this group is all about. I came in with a hyper specific question, which you're able to go deep into because of your experience. Someone coming here saying "yo Dave, please help me get more clients" is like... "woah, where do I even begin my response to that question?" sort of deal. And I don't have enough at bats answering these shallow/softball questions to people who don't already know who I am. A totally different skill.
