Welcome to CNC Startups! Introduce Yourself! 🎉
I’m Ryan, the founder of this group and a passionate CNC entrepreneur. I’m super excited to have you all here. This community is all about helping each other grow, learn, and create with CNC machines—whether you’re just starting or looking to take your skills to the next level. Here’s a little about me: - I’ve been working with CNC machines for 10 years, building a business and helping others do the same. - My favorite thing about CNC is turning a simple design into a product that people love. - Fun fact: I love Bourbon and Tequila, and have over 100 bottles in my collection/stash Now it’s your turn! In the comments, let us know: - Your name and where you’re from - What stage are you at in your CNC journey (just starting, hobbyist, business owner, etc.)? - What you’re most excited to create or learn with CNC - A fun fact about yourself! Looking forward to getting to know everyone and seeing what amazing projects we’ll create together!

Greetings all. I'm in Takoma Park, MD (originally from Louisville, Ky) and have lived in Washington, DC for the last 23 years. I have a OneFinity 4x4 machine and have been a woodworker since I took my first class about 7-8 years ago. I've dabbled in CNC work but my real challenge is being a Mac user where so often all the "how-to" courses and whatnot are geared toward Windows-based machines and software, and as a freelance worker I don't have the money to spend on stuff that "maybe" works so it's hard for me to get the right info. My CNC goals are to get a small side hustle going, maybe making anywhere between $500-$1,000 per month if possible. Realistically tho my CNC has been gathering more dust than woodchips because I have Easel software by Inventibles but there's not a lot of info out there on how to use/maximize it because everyone basically uses Windows stuff where the library of content and information is far deeper. Anyway, really excited to see if this is a community where I can finally break through the doubt and get a small side hustle going. Cheers!

@Slim Mab Thanks Slim. I'm definitely going to keep checking the boards and posts and see if people have better solutions for us few (but faithful) Mac users so we can get the best out of our machines and starting making the side hustle a reality and not a pipe dream.

@James Layne Same here James. I'm just trying to get to the point where I have reliable products to actually sell
Groups.
Is it possible to see where everyone lives. On another site I started a group from my surrounding area of cnc users and we meet every once in a while to share knowledge of our work and help each other. We will go to different houses/shops and also are available via phone if someone has a problem. I for one live in central Texas between Austin and San Antonio.

Wood Hardness
I saw this pop up and thought it would be interesting to everyone! What is the hardest wood you ever worked with?

Only worked twice with ebony but it was for pen turning so it wasn't terribly difficult. I did some milling with rosewood and was kinda shocked how tough it was. Definitely had to be more mindful when getting those boards ready for work. I also have a bunch of hickory I was given but I haven't started working with it yet.
