I would say to get a nice even side as well as thickness. I’m sure we can have a long conversation between hand plane and electric planes as well as thickness planers.
What's Everyone Working On?
I'd love to see more of you posting your projects. We want to see what you're working on; share in your triumphs and tragedies. Preferably more of the former and less of the later.

@Arthur Burke never thought about selling anything. But I guess everyone starts somewhere. Still have to get good at something though. Right now I’m just making things to solve issues. But it’s a thought.

Ok. Finished a small post-it-note holder for my wife. Little learning curve with the inlays I put in there. I Chose not to add another coat of paint on the inside wording because it doesn’t show up as much as in the photo. It’s all good.
Finally started
After two years of buying myself a laser back in 2022, I finally made the time to get it built. It’s not complete because I will be making an enclosure at some point. However it is up and running. I’m now playing with the new toy!

Table Saw vs. Miter Saw - Which one should I get?
📣Question From the Community: I can't decide if I should get a table saw or a miter saw. I've been weighing the pros and cons, but I'm still indecisive and thought I could use your help. > Table Saw - straight cuts, versatile, good for large projects, can occupy more space though > Miter Saw - angled cuts, good for projects where accuracy matters more, more portable I see the benefits of both of them, and I probably will have both down the line. But right now, I'm on a budget and I don't have a lot of space. So I have to pick which one to buy first. What's your take on my table saw vs. miter saw dilemma? Thanks a bunch for helping me out!

@Rich Murphy my first table saw was a delta 10” contractor saw. I finally upgraded to a Ridgid R4560. The old one was handed down to a friend who wants to start building up his skills and shop. Glad it went to someone. Love helping folks get into woodworking.

@Rich Murphy I’ve only made a few cuts but it felt stable. The test will be when I rip down a 4x8
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in woodworking?
Anything you wish you had known when you were a beginner?

Even Michael Angelo started with crayon stick figures. You won’t be perfect the first time building or even the second time. Don’t beat yourself up. This is a journey that you will travel. Along the way, you will meet people that will criticize your work, again, don’t beat yourself up. But you will also meet folks who truly and genuinely want to help, this group is a great start. At the end of the day? You should be pleasing yourself. Did you learn something new today? Did you get better at something since yesterday? Don’t quit, keep going before you know it, you won’t remember why you hesitated this craft in the first place.

Working with wood since high school when it was shop class, I’m that old. Haven’t made the time in a while, but now I’m getting back into sawdusting.
