Unfortunately, what happened at Caterpillar is something that happens all the time. Personally, I don't like answering demographic questions on interview questionaries. I understand they are part of collecting data, yet sometimes I feel its another opportunity to target and discriminate. I feel the same about video interviews. I wish the world was a different place and everyone had an open mind.

@Conor Baker Great question, perhaps using an outside company to collect the demographic data? The information needs to be invisible to the person doing the actual hiring at the very least. Allegedly your demographic data is separate from the application itself according to what I've researched here. If this is true, I think that can be somewhat of a relief. https://www.cangrade.com/blog/talent-acquisition/why-is-my-application-asking-my-race-gender/. Regarding one-way recorded video interviews; the employer can develop a diverse hiring team to review one-way recorded video interviews to assist in the hiring process, however that doesn't guarantee there won't be bias. Yet (at least) with a diverse team of people reviewing, you have less chance for individual bias. Also, there ought to be a standardized tool for measuring each video interview, similar to teachers using a Rubric to grade papers. The hiring committee can use the rubric. This way people are assigned a score, and the process is fair for all who interview. Again, great question! ✨

This looks like a great book, almost reminds me of "A Miracle Morning." My big take away from books like these is to prioritize my time with the things that matter the most. Life stuff can be overwhelming, and yet I find that making a priority list of what I must do still works for me. It's old fashioned, yet pen and paper, and the satisfaction of crossing things off, is fool proof.

Yes absolutely, without branding a company is missing an important part of its foundation.
Calls from Parents
I'd love to get everyone's thoughts on a peculiar situation. Over the past week, I've received three calls from parents trying to help their child find a job. At first, I thought it was odd but figured maybe the newer generation is averse to making phone calls. I provided information on how to apply online. However, after the third call this morning, I started feeling uneasy. Here are the commonalities: - It's always the father calling about job openings for their son or daughter. - They mention where their child lives, down to major cross streets, but imply they don't know the area themselves and that their child doesn't live with them. - They list very general skills (good with computers, administrative tasks, smart, responsible, etc.). - They have a nearly identical spiel about trying to help their child because they've been applying everywhere with no luck. - They ask for my last name and email address towards the end of the call (even though applications are done online, making this seem irrelevant). - They don’t end the call easily, repeating their spiel if I don't force the conversation to close. - All calls came from different numbers, which I've Googled with no results. Is this weird to anyone else? Am I overthinking this? Has anyone experienced anything similar, or is it just a coincidence?
