Any EQ ear training exercises?
Does anyone have any exercises to train the ears and mind to recognize frequencies? I have an OK ability of picking out certain frequencies within a sound or mix but it also involves a lot of searching and trial and error. Watching Jake EQ and identify the offending frequencies right away is very inspiring. One thing I've been doing is dragging in CD tracks and analyzing their mix via a visual EQ. Another thing I do is try and recreate certain elements of songs as closely as I possibly can. If anyone has any helpful tricks to ear training lay em on me!

@Monroe Neese I'll give this a try! I did the one Bobby Owsinski recommended in one of his books for a year. It helped and I moved through it for a bit but then it was like I hit a wall and it became very difficult for me to hear and answer correctly.

Thank you all for the responses! It seems like the Soundgym-type program is the number one route. I tried one of those about two years ago and moved through it and learned from it but then hit a wall and had trouble moving forward in the program. The difference in audio samples was SOOOOO slight and subtle that I was basically guessing answers to their questions. Maybe I should try another, like Soundgym. The one I did was called... jeez I forgot what it was called but it was recommended in a Bobby Owsinski book. But man, it was tough. And I did it regularly.
2024 charts are super fun to look at
Cause you will see almost every genre Except jazz and classical music. Few things in common. Always good vocals and vocals get so much respect in the mix. Rock music going up guys.

I've been digging the new Vampire Weekend songs. They're going in an almost industrial via garage rock direction.
Produce-A-Thon: I made it in time! 💪😮‍💨
Produced, mixed, mastered and everythaaaang. 🤘😤🤘 Thanks TRE mentors for putting on this event! It was amazing practice. Great job to everyone submitting! So cool getting to hear so many ideas going on in the highnote submission area. I'm listening to every one! I've submitted my version under the artist name, Coffee Mug, with this cover art if you want to check it out in there. 🙌 Let me know in the comments how the process went for you! 🔥 @Andrew Gyselings - Shoutout to you, man! LOL, you totally turned that song on it's head and it's one of my favorites! 🤠👍

@Justin Juarez are you the coffee mug one? Incredible instrumentation and mix. The bass sound is so tight.

@Kat V. I just re-uploaded mine after finding some time to mix it better. It's working now.

@Jedidiah Girio Thanks! I've been struggling with recording my drum kit. I almost went with midi drums but I spent all morning yesterday recording the kit and I think it sounds all right. I wanted to try and not use any midi on the track.
Introducing Produce-A-Thon
We’re hosting a brand new free event next week called Produce-A-Thon. You’ll watch as we record and produce three tracks all from the same vocal. One rock, one R&B, one pop. Then we’ll mix and master one of the tracks live. You’ll follow along as a participant with prizes for the best tracks. It starts on Monday. You can get all the info and register for free here: Register for Produce-A-Thon (free 5-day virtual event) This is our biggest event yet. It’s gonna be super fun. Can’t wait! 💪 See you there, Rob -- RE: Time zones. Due to the fact that the US clocks go forward a couple weeks before they do in the UK and Europe, there could be some confusion. To confirm, the event will start on Monday March 11th at 10am Pacific Time // 1pm Eastern Time // 5pm UK Time // 6pm European Time.
