Reiki: The Truth About the 21-Day Reiki Cleansing Period 🤔
I often get asked about the significance of the 21-day cleansing period after Reiki attunement. Let me share my perspective from years of teaching and practicing Reiki. 🙏 First, let's address the elephant in the room: Is the 21-day period really a "thing"? Well, yes and no. While cleansing and development certainly occur after attunement, the idea that it takes exactly 21 days is, frankly, rather arbitrary. Here's why: Each person comes to Reiki with their own unique emotional, physical, and mental landscape. We all carry different experiences, blocks, and levels of spiritual development. Some students arrive at Reiki having practiced yoga, qigong, or meditation for years. Others might be taking their first steps on their spiritual journey. 🌱 Think about it - how could one timeframe possibly fit everyone's unique journey? 🤔 This "21-day rule" might have made more sense thirty years ago when Reiki was often people's sole spiritual practice. But in today's world, where many of us engage with multiple healing modalities, the experience can be quite different. What Really Matters: 💫 Instead of focusing on a predetermined timeframe, I encourage you to: - Make Reiki a consistent daily practice 🌅 - Listen to your intuition 💭 - Pay attention to your body's signals 💫 - Trust your own journey ✨ Your intuition is your best guide - far better than any external, one-size-fits-all rule. The real magic happens when you develop a regular practice and allow your unique process to unfold naturally. 🦋 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Remember: You are unique and healing and spiritual growth happen on their own timeline. Trust the process, stay consistent with your practice, and let your intuition be your guide. 🙏 Watch the whole video here 🎬 Have you experienced a cleansing period after your Reiki attunement? I'd love to hear about your unique journey in the comments below! 💭

Absolutely agree with all 🙏 While I don’t know how, when and why the 21 days cleansing rule came up, I assume that it has to do with the myth that Usuis enlightenment on Mt. Kurama came after 21 days. There is this common misconception of a “standardised path to enlightenment” and people often trying to replicate the same steps that buddha/jesus/usui/[enter other saint] did, in order to achieve the same thing - which of course doesn’t work as they did not walk his path 😅 That said, cleansing aka self-care is always a good thing and ideally we would be doing that not for 21 days but simply as much as possible, to the best of our ability.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone new to Reiki, what would it be? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! 🙏🏼

I think my advice would be: Don’t try to see Reiki as a palm-healing technique, but as a path to invite wellbeing into your own life. Practice self-care, practice the 5 precepts and as a result you will have an abundance of life energy (Ki) in and around you, which you then can better channel to others through (including but not limited to) your hands. I think this perspective would have helped me in the times when I focused too much on details like symbols, prayers, seeing the aura, and the alike, instead of simply cultivating my own Ki and heal myself first.
Introduction Andreiki
Hello Reiki flock! Great to be here. I had my first attunement 20 years ago and now it’s been a few years that I teach reiki in group retreats and individual sessions. I’m Reiki instructor of Western Usui Reiki but at the same time I am transitioning to Jikiden Reiki (Reiki before Takatas generation). Happy to be here for exchange of information and mutual help. Hugs

@Justin Peach Hi Justin, thank you for your question 😊🙏 Explaining my motivation to transition to Jikiden Reiki would make this post very long but I try to put it into a nutshell for now. About your first question: ‘Jikiden’ is the Japanese word for ‘directly passed on’ and it refers to passing on the teachings and techniques directly the way as they were practiced in Japan prior to their modifications when Reiki came to the West. Only 2 years ago I learned that when Reiki first came to the Western civilisation (thanks to Hawayo Takata) it was strongly “westernized” by her due to: - The people from the West were not familiar with the Shinto-background from where Reiki originated making the spread more difficult. - Because of the political situation after WW II the US had a negative attitude towards practices that were “too japanese” and might have rejected it. The “westernised” form was well accepted and kept spreading since then and was further modified in the 1980s when the chakra system was added to it. My motivation to transition to Jikiden Reiki in one phrase: Since I started learning more about this “Japanese Reiki”, I also started practicing it this way and felt much more comfortable with it than ever before, which is why I decided to deepen my reiki path towards that direction. By that I don’t mean to say that this direction is “better” (everyone has to decide for themselves what resonates best with them), but for me - personally it feels right 🙂 Hugs, Andrej PS: If you would like to read more, I have written an article about it that I can share, but I’m not sure if such links are allowed/desired here. If yes, let me know an I share it 😊

Thank you all for this warm welcome. I went ahead and posted the summary HERE for those who are interested :)
Reiki History Timeline
Greetings everyone, since some people asked, I would like to share with you a summary of - what I think - were the most important stations throughout the history of Reiki - and how these events eventually caused "different Styles" of Reiki. I gathered and summarized this information from these (highly recommended) books: - This is Reiki (Frank Arjava Petter) - Light on The Origins of Reiki (Tadao Yamaguchi) - Reiki and Japan (Masaki Nishina) If you are only interested in the point in time of the major changes of Reiki, feel free to skip to the 1970s. -------------------------------------------------------------- TIMELINE: - 1865 - Mikao Usui is born - 1868 - Beginning of the period of emperor Meiji - 1870 - Proclamation of State Shinto*: *Shinto is the indigenous spirituality of Japan, focusing on the worship of kami — spirits or gods associated with natural phenomena, ancestors, and significant cultural sites. It emphasizes harmony with nature, ritual purity, and reverence for Japan's divine heritage. With emperor Meiji, Shinto was framed as a patriotic, nationalistic tradition, emphasizing loyalty to the Emperor and the divine nature of the Japanese state. The emperor was viewed as a divine figure, central to Japan's identity. - 1908 - Japan restricts immigration to the U.S. - 1914 - Japan sides with the Allied Powers in World War I - 1914 - Mataji Kawakami introduces "Reiki Ryoho" as a healing method: He publishes a book about it in 1919. In addition, there is evidence that there were at least 3 other Reiki styles developed before Usui (Reikan Tonetsu Ryoho, Senshin-ryu Reiki Ryoho, Seido Reisho-jutsu), none of which were spread and taught publicly though. - 1922, March - Mikao Usui meditates on Mt. Kurama to find inner peace. On the 21st day he passes out and awakes with the ability and awareness of Reiki. - 1922, April - Usui creates the Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, (the Usui Healing System Learning Society).
