@Vinh Nguyen agree with Jason and Dave. If Wing Chun were a language, Siu Nim Tao would be it's alphabet. It is not just important, it is principal, essential, fundamental.
@Jason Davis my longest break was about 12 years. I'd taken it up because I didn't have much work and trained heavily for about a year. I stopped because work picked up and didn't go back because life. It stayed in my mind though and, walking anywhere, I always walked with mindfulness of centre and structure. At rare times I would practice SNT. I then trained a couple of times a week for another year before life got too hectic again with children and work. That was about 8-9 years ago. Again, in the subsequent break, I've always walked anywhere with a sense of Wing Chun centre and structure. Occasionally I've trained SNT. Wing Chun has always stayed in the back of my mind and I've always missed it, but those were my breaks. Coming to @Sifu John Cogan 's school, I've made a decision to pursue mastery in Wing Chun. I've made a commitment to myself to follow the path. How did the breaks feel? It was life, but something was missing. No matter how far I got from Wing Chun, there was some part of me that was steering me back here. ☮️♥️🥋
I have reached the stage of being able to perform the full Biu Tze, I just need to add more snap to my movements. Has anyone else reached this stage or is struggling with their BT?
Congratulations Jason! I'm still very much just trying to learn Biu Jee. While I've seen the form done many times, I was never taught it step-by-step in a class situation so am piecing it together from videos, and am concerned I may be missing a lot of subtleties in the process. If you know of a decent step-by-step tutorial online, I'd be eager to check it out.
@Marlon Twyman I agree, especially at the early stages of my learning. I still devote a lot of focus to Siu Nim Tao. However, I've noticed that my increasing proficiency with Chum Kiu has also deepened my understanding of, and proficiency in, Siu Nim Tao. I only hope that becoming literate in Biu Jee will also deepen my connection to the other forms. I'm a numbers guy. Practice builds proficiency. I'm tracking to complete the first three forms at least 10,000 times each by my 60th. 10,000 is too big a number to really visualise so I started counting last month. I'll need to get my Biu Jee numbers moving soon or I won't get there.
Congratulations all! @Adam Marlow you absolute legend! You killed it from day 1 and were relentless in your training and your support of your fellows! You fully earned the dummy, brother, inspirational effort! @Michael Amiet @Jason Ashby @Ward Britton @Noah Cogan thank you guys for your cameraderie and support throughout the month. I had a blast! My training is back in motion and I'm on a life-long journey. Thank you @Sifu John Cogan for your generosity and the great gifts of your wisdom, knowledge, time, support, and care. We've gotta do this again! 🙌🏻🥋🫸🏻🤛🏻
