I’m getting ready to start a pizza peel project with this olive wood slab. I’m letting it naturalize to the shop conditions for a few weeks before flattening the slab.
I’ve heard that olive has a tendency to warp over time. I’m thinking it may be a good idea to seal/harden the piece after flattening and before shaping.
What is giving me concern is that this will be going into a hot pizza oven for brief periods of time. I’m not sure a wood hardener or penetrating epoxy would be good for high heat usage. Maybe the minimal exposure time is less of a concern than I’m thinking. The other concern would be food safety if a fully cured hardener is exposed to heat.
Does anyone have any ideas on stabilizing the piece?
Thanks!
