Advice on diversifying client base amid a downturn + any additional insight???
Hey! Glad to have joined this community, and I'm looking forward to see how it'll grow :)
I'm a video editor, based in Pittsburgh and I'm two years into freelancing. When I started, I was super fortunate to have found a great agency and get on board with them as a contracted video editor right as things were getting super busy. Because of their overabundance of work, I barely turned anything down from them, and had all my eggs in that one basket. It was great while it lasted, but because of this, I never really worked on growing my list of clients as much as I should've, and this year has been rough so far for myself and many others in the video and ad side of things. The agency I'm with is barely getting any work, and no other existing clients of mine have anything. The economy and uncertainty from the ad and tech side seemingly halted spending in a large chunk of the video industry and all that on top of the writers strike doesn't seem to be helping either :////
So would anyone like to share some advice? Insight? General info to add on top of any of this? How are others involved in the video and ad industry dealing with the downturn, or have you noticed an uptick in work? It seems to be slowly picking back up based on what I've heard, but I'm still not experiencing the effects of that 🫠🫠🫠
