I’ve been a freelancer motion designer for something like 90% of my almost 15-year career. For the last few years, my work has been brand and product focused on consumer goods, consumer electronics and tech. Having reached a point of burnout with freelancing on-site I retreated to remote work and more recently took a long-term contract. Now that it's ended I'm looking for direct clients and to level-up! My plan is to work directly with consumer brands, working with their in-house teams as a creative-motion specialists. Someone who can help them put their message in motion and build out a team to produce and deliver. I'm currently redesigning my website with case studies to show the value of my work. As far as clients go I feel like I’m back on the ground floor. I never really had trouble finding work as a freelancer, I probably didn't try as hard as I should have but I was relatively successful. Going for direct clients feels different… My question for the community is how and who should I be selling to in order to avoid being stuck in the survival level of “the creative game”? Fantastic initiative. My name is Gonzalo, I’m a freelance video editor based in Madrid and new around here. I feel super happy about the chance to become part of this community, but I believe that I don’t play in the same league that most of the people here. No background in entrepreneurship, just in freelancing. But I’d really like to level up my business skills and I have always found Marko´s advice and work as a mentor full of valuable insights. A real down-to-earth approach (yes, I want to be like him when I grow up). I'm Luke a Motion Designer from South Africa. I am working fulltime at an motion graphics studio but I moonlight after hours. I do primarily 2D motion graphics but I'm investing more time into 3D. Clients hire me because I have a good reputation in my industry and I get most of my freelance work from referrals. I hope to make genuine connections and mentors as well as explore how I can maximize what I have to make passive income. Also to potentially be more clued up with business and how I can be more valuable whether I'm employed or starting my own business. I also just want to have more of a business mindset and find more revenue streams. I started a motion design community in Cape Town about 5 years ago and it's been growing nicely and we currently have an in-person meetup bi-monthly. I'm looking to get more sponsors and get the whole event streamlined.
