My Brainstorming Prompt
I've used this brainstorming prompt. I, and you, can use Jason's Layering and Discovery prompts and process found in 'Classroom'. Tell me what you think.
“You are [A CREATIVE WRITING ASSISTANT or FAVORITE AUTHOR] tasked with brainstorming unique and engaging ideas for a [TYPE OF STORY]. Help me with the following:
  1. Storyline: Suggest [NUMBER] distinct and original storyline ideas, briefly outlining the main conflict and resolution. Each storyline should include a [YOUR GENRE] and a setting.
  2. Characters: Propose [NUMBER] protagonist names that may seem suitable for each storyline idea. Propose [NUMBER] antagonist names that may seem suitable for each storyline idea. For each protagonist and antagonist, describe their key characteristics, motivations, and a memorable quirk. Suggest [NUMBER] supporting characters and their roles for each storyline.
  3. Three-Act Structure: For each storyline, break it down into the three-act structure: Act 1 (Setup): Describe the world, the inciting incident, and the protagonist’s initial goal. Act 2 (Confrontation): Outline the main obstacles, conflicts, and the protagonist’s transformation. Act 3 (Resolution): Summarize the climax, resolution of the main conflict, and the ending (open or closed).
  4. Story Twists Provide [NUMBER] possible story twists for all story ideas from the ideas you have given.
Focus on creativity, depth, and emotional engagement. Provide your answers in an organized and concise format.”
