A free place to look for gigs.
One of my speaking coaches pointed me to an amazing resource to find leads for both free and paid speaking gigs.
Your local Library!
More specifically a reference you can find at the library... The Encyclopedia of Associations
Back in the day this was a large 4 volume set that would list every association in the country. It is now 6 volumes and has gone digital. there are 2 volumes each for international organizations, national orgs, and state and local groups.
You will find associations for things you never thought would exist. I just sent a speaking proposal to the local Maple Flooring Manufacturers Association. I never knew that was a thing!!!
Every listing includes information about the association, web page, address, and contact information.
Some libraries will only allow you to access it in-house on their computers, but others will grant home access through their website with your library card.
You can sit down with a note pad or an open word doc and find organizations that you can reach out to.
So i would reccomend that you can dive into this resource and in a couple of hours os simply bumbling along you will find more opportunities than you can handle.
So get a library card. In fact, get a card for every library you can. When I travel I visit local libraries and sign up for a card. The more members they show in their system the more funding they can access. So I help them in every way I can.
You may find your library an amazing resource for other things with your speaking business. One of my local branches was recently remodeled and has a recording studio. I will be using it to record audio products to sell at the back of the room. I can even "check out" a sound tech to help me do the recording and produce it. And it's all FREE!!!
To Your Success.
