The five key mistakes I see people making in SEO
Number One: They rely on SEO alone. I've been in the industry for over 20 years, and one thing I've learned is that you need other promotional methods too. These methods complement SEO, but relying solely on it is risky because things will change at some point.
Number two: Focusing only on technical SEO. Some people think fixing all the technical issues on their site will automatically boost their rankings, but it doesn’t work that way. Technical SEO is just the foundation; it’s where you start.
Number three: Being in a rush. SEO is a long game—it always has been and always will be. People often try to rush the process, but SEO doesn't work that way. You have to be patient and understand it takes time.
Number four: Believing the PR. Google has a massive public relations machine, and it uses it to influence what people should or shouldn’t do. But you have to remember, they’re trying to stop certain tactics because a lot of people are using them. (and most likely working) It’s not always about what’s best for you.
Number five: Focusing everything on on-page content. Google’s foundation is built on links from other websites. Links act like votes, signalling to Google that your site is important. The more quality links you have, the more trust and authority you build.
Happy to cover any questions here :)
