What type of roofing do you specialize in?
When I married my husband in 1983 he already had a roofing business. Mainly "New Roofing". Installing shingles on new homes and apartments? Why did he start there? 1. The contractor supplied all the materials (Shingle, Felt, and Flashing). 2. We specialized in the beginning in one type of roofing. Later expanded to Residential Reroofs, Repairs, Hot Tar Roofing, Commercial, and Single Ply. 3. He could do it himself and didn't need to hire any employees or contractors. 4. It was a low overhead cost. His self, gas, ladder, nail pouch, and basic roofing tools. He wasn't going into debt. 5. We didn't need insurance, a contractor's license, a permit, etc. 6. We didn't need to advertise. We later advertised in the phone book which cost us $500/month which was expensive back in the 1980s. Roofers would see who could get on the first page. 7. 80% of our work was on our reputation and word of mouth. People would hunt us down. How would that feel in your roofing company? 8. He used a 1971 F-50 (Not a fancy truck). That we kept repairing. Sometimes we even had expired tags. 9. You can begin small if that is where you are. 10. An accountant that only balanced our checking account and end-of-the-year taxes. This was low cost and kept our taxes paid to keep us out of trouble with the IRS. This is where I started and why I am super compassionate about helping Roofing Companies and Contractors with accounting and their profits. I know what it's like working hard on the roof and you feel like you're not getting anywhere. This is why I offer both Done-For-You Services, Done-With-You Services, and Do-It-Yourself Services.
