Hello fellow Einsteins of the future, recently I have been reading quite a few books about productivity and one of these books’ ideas stuck out to me. The book's name is Slow Productivity by Cal Newport. Cal Newport addresses the common problem in our lives: the feeling of being not being productive enough. He compares and contrasts the productivity of the past vs the productivity of the present.
Earlier, productivity was just how much a factory could produce and now it is more closely associated with brain work. Many people think that sitting in front of your laptop for 8 hours or just reading your textbooks is productive, but no, I think this is a huge problem with us as students. This often holds us back, even after putting in hours and we don't get results.
So now that we are on the same page after my whole yapping, I want you all to remember the following key ideas:
- Take on fewer projects at a time.
- Create a list differentiating your tasks between backlog and active projects.
- Focus on a specific goal at a time.
- Give yourself enough time to produce quality work.
What this does is simple. It puts your undivided attention into one task and lets you focus on quality results.. So yeah, that's it. I hope these tips help you and others who are struggling with productivity.
(Ps. Bonus tip :this is not from the book but from my experience, try balancing the subjectivity of the tasks you do with your overall capabilities. This helps you achieve the flow state more often.)
