Literature Review

I am just starting my literature review 📕 into my science research project topic and am wondering when I should know to finish it and that I have done enough of the review to stop. I want to learn as much about my topic as possible, but at the same time, I don't want to put too much of my time ⏰️ into it.

I want to make sure that I have thorough knowledge of my topic. However, I also have the tendency to take too much time on things ⏳️ trying to make them perfect, thereby progressing slowly overall. I want to make sure that I can finish this research in order to compete at science fair 🔬🧪, but, as of now, I am unsure how long I should take on the literature review process.

Additionally, I am confused on when I start my research proposal, is it after the literature review process is done, or is it instead while I conduct the review.

Last thing, but at what point should I start cold emailing professors for mentorship? 🤔 Should I finish my Lit review, or should I just read their papers and cold email them as I am doing my literature review? Let me known what you think! 😊
