How to Actually Stop Scrolling.
Here's an interesting fact: only about 15% of the people who start reading this post will make it to the end. Even more interesting is that the ones who stop reading halfway through are probably the ones who need this advice the most.
Now, I could easily give you a list of the top five tricks to never scroll again. I could make this post really entertaining, with catchy subheadings and engaging examples. You'd probably finish reading it feeling super motivated. But let's be real - you'd most likely not stop scrolling. In fact, you might end up even more addicted to your phone because this post would just reinforce your social media habits.
But this isn't that kind of post.
## The Real Problem: Short Attention Span
We all know that scrolling shortens our attention span. It's the main reason why we can't sit down and be productive. When we find reading or working boring, it's probably not because the book is bad or the work is uninteresting. It's because our attention span is so short that we can't focus hard enough on the task at hand.
Most of us want to stop scrolling because we have more important things we want to accomplish. Maybe we want to be more focused when studying or working on a business project. And there's actually only one thing we need to do to become more focused: increase our attention span.
## Training Your Attention Span
Think of your attention span as a muscle. Just like we train our biceps to become bigger and stronger through repeated exercise, we can do the same thing with our attention. Every time we meditate, we're essentially going to a mental gym and doing some bicep curls for our attention span.
I've designed this post as an exercise. Just like meditation helps us increase our attention span, reading this post will try to do the same thing. After you've finished reading, you'll have done a few bicep curls for your brain.
So, here's what I want you to do:
1. Don't do something else while reading this post.
2. Don't scroll down to the comments.
3. Don't open up another tab.
4. Focus all your attention on these words.
Your lizard brain will try to tell you that you need to be somewhere else, that you need to read another post or do something else. Don't listen to it. You don't need to be anywhere else but right here for the next few minutes.
Keep this in mind as you continue reading: if you can catch your lizard brain telling you to click away, but you stay anyway, you'll have done a few bicep curls for your attention span, and your focus will have improved.
## The Power of Meditation
There's one thing we can do every day, for just a few minutes after we've woken up, that will drastically increase our attention span and make us more focused individuals. That thing is meditation.
Here's how to do it:
1. Sit down comfortably in your room with no distractions.
2. Focus on your breath.
That's it. This is, without a doubt, the exercise our generation needs the most.
Let's actually test this right now. For the next 30 seconds, just focus on your breath. Ready? Go.

Good job! You've just done a few bicep curls for your brain, which has improved your attention span a little bit further.
## My Personal Experience with Meditation
I remember when I first tried meditation about a year ago. I felt kind of weird about it because I thought it was just something that monks or yoga moms did. I didn't really get it at first.
But then I understood the benefits and saw why it would actually help me make progress towards my goal of building a successful business. I started doing it daily for just 3 minutes at first, which was really hard. But as I did it more and more, I became better at it.
I gradually increased the time from 3 minutes to 5 minutes, then from 5 minutes to 10 minutes, and now even 20 minutes. I just sit in my room with no stimulation, no music, nothing except me focusing on my breath. As a result, it has helped me make huge progress towards my goals because now I'm able to actually sit down and work, which was completely impossible before I started meditating.
## How to Start Meditating
Start meditating. I know you may have preconceived ideas about meditation, but those are just doubts making your lizard brain stronger. Make the conscious decision right now to not listen to those thoughts.
Here's what I recommend:
1. Do it first thing in the morning.
2. Start with just 3 minutes.
3. Gradually increase the duration as you get more comfortable.
Don't listen to your brain telling you all the reasons why you can't do it. It's not weird or cringe to focus on improving yourself - it's necessary. This is the step in the right direction that will take you closer to your goals, whether that's getting better grades, making more money, or being more productive.
Try this experiment today: meditate for 3 minutes every morning. I guarantee you'll see a drastic improvement in your focus.
## Conclusion
If you've made it this far, congratulations! Your mind may have wandered away, thinking about something else during this post, but you've stayed. Maybe you think you haven't done this the right way or you've done something wrong while reading. Trust me, you haven't.
Whatever you thought about during this post doesn't matter. What matters is that you've stayed throughout the whole thing and followed through on your commitment. That's what counts.
Remember, increasing your attention span is a journey. It takes time and consistent effort. But with practice, you'll find yourself becoming more focused, more productive, and better equipped to achieve your goals. So start small, be patient with yourself, and keep at it. Your future, more focused self will thank you.
