I just found a Sports Illustrated article from 2016 titled, Defying expectations, people with Autism are participating and excelling in sports. Neuro-diverse people are often connected to playing video games and watching TV/videos much of the time. Although they enjoy the stimulation from video games, many of my kids & teens enjoy a variety of sports. For example, I have patients who participate in martial arts, softball, baseball, golf, tennis, track, gymnastics, football, and soccer. Sports can be an invaluable resource to develop the skills to build friendships, self-confidence, physical coordination, and learning how to be part of a team. Let's continue to expand our thoughts about neuro-divergent people and help them build healthy, social experiences in sport!
