Welcome to Painter's Hub — START HERE
Hello Welcome to the Painters Hub. 🎥 First: Watch my 5-minute Hub tour (see video below 👇) See exactly how to navigate + get your first breakthrough this week THE TRUTH ABOUT LANDSCAPE PAINTING Most artists struggle because they jump straight to colour without understanding the foundations. Here's what actually works: Values does all the heavy lifting. Colours get all the glory. That's why we start with thumbnails and values—not pretty colours. Master these fundamentals, and your paintings will transform. YOUR BREAKTHROUGH CHALLENGE Do these 3 exercises (in order) and post your result: 1. Thumbnail Sketching (19 min lesson + 10 min practice) → Draw 3 thumbnail sketches. Focus on: dark, mid, light. No detail. https://www.skool.com/painters-hub/classroom/e0acdf28?md=a41ebf2a50824d248a066e9ba1f64bfb 2. Value Study (14 min lesson + 30 min practice)→ Paint your best thumbnail in 3 values only. Watch flat paintings come alive. https://www.skool.com/painters-hub/classroom/e0acdf28?md=1c4505f82265477883ccbfdf15c34d31 3. Quick Colour Sketches (optional, 30 min)→ Add colour if you're ready, but values come first. https://www.skool.com/painters-hub/classroom/e0acdf28?md=338c2252d43f45a0b10d8fae1946f8ce Then post ONE of these: - Your 3 thumbnail sketches - Your value study - Your current painting + "Where I'm stuck" FREE RESOURCES AVAILABLE NOW: Foundation Skills: - Thumbnail Sketching Game-Changer (19m) - Value Study Game-Changer (14m) - Composition: Fix It For Good (10m) - Tonal Values Mastery (10m) Painting Techniques: - Painting a Colour Study (27m) - Mixing Clouds & Skies - Autumn Colours That Work BONUS: Interact in the community, gain points, and unlock my Milford Sound painting workshop when you reach Level 6.

Want Your Painting Critiqued This Monday? (Plus Composition Help!)
Hey Artists 👋 Quick heads-up: this Monday at 8 AM Sydney time, I'm running a 2-hour painting critique session at the Art School. Here's how it works: Got a painting that's driving you crazy? Submit it, and I'll help you figure out what's working, what's not, and exactly how to fix it. Got photos or an idea for a painting, but not sure how to tackle it? Bring those too! We'll workshop the composition together and develop a solid game plan for painting it. This is one of my favourite sessions to run because you get real-time feedback on YOUR specific challenges - whether it's composition, values, colour mixing, or just figuring out where to start. After this critique session, we're back to our regular weekly live painting classes (with full replays), plus you'll get access to 60+ complete painting courses covering everything from clouds to trees to mastering values. If you've been thinking about joining the Art School, now's a great time. Jump in, submit your work, and let's get you some breakthroughs. https://www.skool.com/samuel-earp-online-art-school/about See you Monday! Sam

If Forests Feel Impossible to Paint, Watch This
Hey Artists Struggling with forest scenes? You're not alone. Layers of foliage, glowing light through leaves, transparent water, rocks, dense detail... forest landscapes can feel completely overwhelming. But here's the thing: once you understand the right approach, even the most complex forest scenes become manageable. Check out this YouTube video where I paint a challenging forest landscape step-by-step, showing you exactly how to tackle all those intimidating elements without getting lost in the details. After 20+ years of painting landscapes and many years teaching thousands of students, I've learned that the secret isn't trying to paint everything you see, it's understanding the fundamentals that make ANY forest scene work. Watch it here 👇 Cheers Sam P.S. Want to go deeper with full-length real-time lessons and structured training? Sunset oil painting
I just painted this sunset oil painting. I will appreciate any critique or feedback
Sunset oil painting
My First Step Into Oil Painting
I finally finished this piece! It was definitely a challenging one for my first oil-painting experience, especially the trees. 😅 Looking back, I probably should have started with something easier. I also don’t know why my colours didn’t turn out like Sam’s — I think I still struggle with colour mixing even though I followed the course carefully!
