Permanent residency.
Today I finalise the application for the Chinese green/5 star permanent resident card. I meet the criteria through marriage and work, and if accepted will have a resident card that will be valid for 10 years, meaning I need not apply for the annual work/spouse visa! It will also allow me to work beyond the state retirement age of 60, and allow me to work as a self employed person, as a nomad!
The application is straightforward enough, a two page application form and evidence of marriage and savings (a 6 month bond of 200,000 rmb, £21,000, $27,000) The bond has to be in a 6 month account, which is the anticipated process time of the application, the bond is always in your name and not stolen by anyone! The permanent resident card also opens up access to social medical care, being able to purchase train and plane tickets without the passport, and enter and leave China without a visa (still need to present your passport).
Although I am very confident that I meet the requirements, getting one is still challenging, the application goes to Beijing for scrutiny, so I will just have to wait and see!
