DO YOU NEED TO TAKE SUPPLEMENTS IN MENOPAUSE?
There are many who say you don't need to supplement, just eat right and exercise. Based on my thirty years experience as a holistic physician, I strongly disagree. Here's why: Let me briefly start with my own experience because most of us have variations of this. I was born with Celiac disease, but my Mom didn't understand this and never told me and I grew up without eliminating gluten until I was 30. I experienced sometimes severe and frequent infections that were treated with antibiotics. I also grew up eating desserts with every dinner, candy and other sweets. Even though I ate a lot of healthy foods, I was depleted. Regular use of antibiotics severely affects the GI tract and causes malapsorption. Sugar depletes Vitamin C and our antioxidants. This left me open to continuing infections and potential for cancer. Luckily, I started to change my diet and started supplementing. At age 70 now, I'm much healthier than when I was 20, 30, even 40. My story is the norm, not the outsider. After working with mentally ill and addicts for several years the stories of how people ate made me realize how essential both diet and supplementation were for our health. The majority of us have to make up for lost time - and lost nutrients! Then comes MENOPAUSE, with estrogen diving down, our deficiencies become more prominent. When we look at some of the more unusual symptoms like numbness and tingling, hair loss, achey joints, low back pain, muscle spasms and many others, they are all related to nutritional deficiencies many of which require supplementation to get to a normal level. Trying to do it with all diet takes much longer, if it can even be done.
