๐ก Today's lesson is short and sweet so I'll simply share Kenneth's unusually brief commentary ๐
๐ "Today we will begin to assert some of the happy things to which you are entitled, being what you are." (ACIM, W-40.1:1) ๐ Kenneth:ย โIn these early lessons, as we have previously discussed, Jesus makes it clear that our minds are split, part of which worships guilt and attack thoughts, while the other contains the memory of Who we truly are. Beginning with this lesson and continuing for the next ten, Jesus gives our egos a respite as he speaks almost exclusively about the other sideโโthe happy things to which you are entitledโโour right minds.โ Excerpt from Journey through the Workbook of "A Course in Miracles", Kenneth Wapnick, Vol. 1, p. 127. ๐ ""No long practice periods are required today, but very frequent short ones are necessary. ยณOnce every ten minutes would be highly desirable, and you are urged to attempt this schedule and to adhere to it whenever possible. โดIf you forget, try again. โตIf there are long interruptions, try again. โถWhenever you remember, try again." (ACIM, W-40.1:2-6) ๐ Kenneth: โThe exercises for today thus represent a departure from the previous ones because of the absence of a long exercise period. In addition, Jesus continues his strong yet gentle urgings that we keep trying to rememberโas often as possible each hourโwithout making our forgetting into a sin. Quite obviously he knows we will. The next paragraph is extremely important because it helps us recognize that these exercises must be applied all the time, whether we are meditating in a quiet room, or being about our busyness. We do not have to close our eyes in order to remember God and His Son:โ Excerpt from Journey through the Workbook of "A Course in Miracles", Kenneth Wapnick, Vol. 1, p. 127 ๐ "You need not close your eyes for the exercise periods, although you will probably find it more helpful if you do. ยฒHowever, you may be in a number of situations during the day when closing your eyes would not be feasible. ยณDo not miss a practice period because of this. โดYou can practice quite well under any circumstances, if you really want to." (ACIM, W-40.2:1-4) ๐ Kenneth: โThus, no matter where you are during the dayโdriving your car, eating with a friend, quietly alone, busy at workโyou can remember todayโs lesson.โ Excerpt from Journey through the Workbook of "A Course in Miracles", Kenneth Wapnick, Vol. 1, p. 127. ๐ ""Todayโs exercises take little time and no effort. ยฒRepeat the idea for today, and then add several of the attributes you associate with being a Son of God, applying them to yourself. ยณOne practice period might, for example, consist of the following:
โดI am blessed as a Son of God. โตI am happy, peaceful, loving and contented.
โถAnother might take this form:
โทI am blessed as a Son of God. โธI am calm, quiet, assured and confident.
โนIf only a brief period is available, merely telling yourself that you are blessed as a Son of God will do."ย (ACIM, W-40.3:1-9) ๐ Kenneth: โJesus is asking us to take the general statement of our Identity and make it more specific, thereby making it more personal to us. The lessonโs final line reiterates how we do not need a quiet place or set time to remember.
Underlying Jesusโ teaching here is that we need time and placeโi.e., ritualsโas long as we identify with our bodies. But since Jesusโ ultimate teaching is that we are minds, weaning us of our dependency on externals is an important step toward our eventual identification with the mind: the source of our blessedness, as well as the birthplace of our resistance to accepting Who we truly are.โ Excerpt from Journey through the Workbook of "A Course in Miracles", Kenneth Wapnick, Vol. 1, p. 127. ๐๐ช Have a wonderful weekend ๐ช๐

* My comment on this lesson follows my studying of the in-depth comment of the same lesson by Kenneth Wapnick in his published work,ย Journey through the Workbook of "A Course in Miracles". While it may sometimes contain my thoughts on it, it is essentially my humble take and summary of the masterful work of Kenneth. I share them here in the hope that someone might find them helpful. ** I also share, in these ACIM posts, the wallpaper images that I use on my phone and change every day to help me commit to my lesson, in the hope that some might enjoy them as well.ย Here is the linkย to a Dropbox folder where you can download the lessons's wallpaper for mobile I have uploaded so far.
