There was an old Henry Ford quote, to the effect of: "If I asked my customers what they wanted, they would have asked for faster horses." I think his point was - and what I have learned about a hundred times over is.... definitely ask the customer about their intended outcome, but realize that they will nearly always have their own point of reference on how that outcome is achieved.
