I'm coaching Year 7's next year and keen to know of any drills that would help them from getting pushed off the ball so easily when it is in dispute. A couple of my big guys in particular would benefit from better utilising their size rather than getting nudged out of the contest for ground balls. Cheers.

Trying to make training fun
Hi All, Last year was my first year coaching and I started the year by getting the kids to draw a card from a shuffled deck. That card became theirs for the year and it was their responsibility to bring it to trainings as kind of a sign in system. The idea was at the start of every training (2 a week) the kids would give me their cards and I'd let who ever had played well or had done something good pick a card. The first picked would get to choose the last drill of the night and the next 3 would be for who gets the final kicks on goals. To try get the kids involved and put a bit of responsibility and ownership of their team, I had 3 coaches cards in the pile and if they were picked then the boys had to do some running at the end (more of them bring their cards the less chance of a coaches card being picked). It was a pretty fun thing to do and i found that the kids all bought into the team structure in a light hearted way while they still got some decent training done. Looking ahead to next year I want to change it up but with the same ownership responsibilities for the boys. Unfortunately some kids lost their cards after a month so I'm after ideas that others might have done similar that have worked. Cheers 👍
