ES Scratch / Frustrating Miss

I was watching the downward channel this morning and waiting for a violation to the upside; I eventually got in and set my brackets, but price kept hitting the mean and I flattened it two candles later for a scratch as I thought it might be ready to break support and break down (the other move I was watching for). And then the market opened on the next candle, and it flew...🥴

Was it a 50/50 entry or reasonable? Was I overly cautious to exit early? How influential is the mean when we're trading off the 5-minute (that was my deciding factor to get out early)? I'm grateful for any and all feedback.
