Why Skool?
Hey all, I have an established newsletter (10 years) and planning on launching a community.
I was going to use Heartbeat for my community (heartbeat.chat/) but know that Skool has been growing in popularity.
My question is, why is Skool so popular? I can't seem to wrap my head around it. It seems pretty basic and the design (IMHO) is... ugly/boring.
So why are so many people flocking to and promoting school?

Because ugly&boring is completely simple. Even the generation of people 40+ or a 15 year old teenager will understand it. Basically like Minecraft. Because it's built on business and gamification from the start. And because behind Skool is a community of community folks, but the main difference from, for example, CMX is that 80% of the community are entrepreneurs, not managers.

it's by far the best UI/UX of any community platform
engagement on circle/heartbeat etc sucks compared to what you can get on skool
there is the affiliate aspect of the platform too for sure, but there is not actually an affiliate program for skool, you can't promote other people's communities and get paid

you would have to think something like Sparkloop is on the product roadmap

There’s something to the basic UX compared to Heartbeat, Circle, etc… just look at Reddit!
I do actually think the real competition will be Reddit premium / paywall when and if they release that.

especially as SEO play, look what apparently happened in July

very interesting! I think that’s the key for these platforms to break out. Why Etsy, Reddit, etc… are doing so well. A platform WITH network effect is key.

I'm a Skool affiliate, so I'm a little biased.
I have bought and monetized a lot of Facebook groups.
FB is killing reach, but that's not what frustrated me the most.
What frustrated me was:
I couldn't DM people.
Or my DMs would land in the "Message Requests" section.
I couldn't ask someone else to DM on my behalf unless I gave them access to my profile.
Skool fixed that for me.
Now, I run a poll or an auction.
Then, ask a team member to DM the interested members.
And we close them over chat.
Skool as a sales machine is working very well for us.
P.S. If you join using my Skool affiliate link, I will do something special for you.

I have a FB group in ecommerce/digital entrepreneurship with 75k people. It's been on hold for a few years because I hate it there. Does this group have any monetary value at this point, in your opinion?

What do you mean by "on hold"?
You stopped posting/moderating the group or there is no activity in the group?

Or is it just the lucrative affiliate program?

I run a mid-six-figures SEO community and nothing beats the easy engagement of Slack.
NOTHING. :)
