Ideas & Being Willing To Try...
The most important thing in your content is your ideas. There's a famous quote that Ben Affleck said to Matt Damon when they were writing their hit movie: "Hey, judge me for how good my good ideas are, not how bad my bad ideas are." When coming up with ideas, you have to be willing to try things. I promise that you will surprise yourself when you are willing to step outside of your comfort zone. Be flexible and willing to shoot things no matter how silly you feel, because one of those silly ideas might just work. Just today, we wrapped up filming a VSL for a financial planner. He was all dressed nicely, hair combed, and he delivered every line perfectly. It was squeaky clean and polished professionally, as most webinars and VSLs are, meticulously planned. But we had an hour before it was time for him to board his flight. Lauren and I looked at him and said, "Let's put you in a bubble bath." Remembering the Margot Robbie scene from one of my favorite movies, The Big Short, I thought it would be hilarious to parallel it. If you've never seen the movie, Margot is in a bubble bath explaining the intricacies of the stock market crash in 2008. So we popped Ned in this giant bubble bath to deliver information about financial planning. We must have filmed 20 different jokes and ideas centered around it, and it was hilarious. This 6'3", 62-year-old man in the tub, fully clothed in business attire, was hilarious. Then we said, "Let's have you wear your swim shorts and your button-up shirt in the pool." I can't wait to edit this stuff because I know we have a winning piece of content here. Lots of visual hooks, laughs, and most importantly, the ability to grab attention. If you don't get their attention, they'll never hear your message. Well, I gotta run to head out for dinner. So let's wrap this story up. The principle here is that you have to be flexible to try new things because you'll never know what creative ideas will snowball from one spark. It's kinda like when you have some ingredients in your fridge and try to make something out of nothing. Sometimes you surprise yourself with how good the meal turns out.
