I do not know how you feel about it, but I tend to be polite when interacting with my favorite LLMs. You know, "please" and "thank you" and such. After all, you just never know.
I also like engaging them in general conversations -- not just research or text manipulation -- like this one, "A Conversation With ChatGPT" which I shared here:
I noticed that one of the LLMs I use frequently was also using "please" and "thank you" and I did not recall noticing it before. Maybe it was new. Maybe I had not picked up on it.
Anyway, I commented, "When did you get so polite? One might think you were Canadian!" to which it replied:
"Ah, a keen observation!
"While I don't have personal attributes like nationality, my responses are designed to be helpful and informative. Politeness is often seen as a positive quality in human interaction, so I strive to incorporate it into my responses."
Of course!
Remember, "prompt engineering" does not have to be rocket science. Just say what you mean and mean what you say, to paraphrase Horton, and you will get along just fine with ChatGPT, or another favorite LLM.
