If you’re looking for an easier way to start designing and posing your characters, here’s a simple workflow that combines ChatGPT and Midjourney to bring your ideas to life. For a full example with visuals, check out the attached PDF.
Workflow Steps:
- Create a Character Design or Pose in ChatGPT: Start by describing your desired character design or pose. ChatGPT makes it easy—especially if you use voice conversation mode to naturally describe what you’re envisioning without having to worry about formatting a prompt correctly.
2. Finalize your Initial Draft in ChatGPT: Once ChatGPT generates the concept, refine it there until you’re satisfied with the details.
3. Upload to Midjourney: Crop and upload your concept image to Midjourney.
4. Use as Image Reference in Midjourney: Copy the link to your concept image and use it as a reference link in your Midjourney prompt. Pair it with a base character prompt to nail your character’s consistency and style (we cover base character prompts in the Level 1 AI Filmmaking Course under Step 4 - How to Create Consistent Characters).
5. Refine Your Image in Midjourney: Adjust parameters or iterate on the design until you have a final image you’re happy with.
6. Optional - Final Touches in Photoshop: For added control, import the image into Photoshop and use Adobe Firefly to refine specific objects or clothing details that didn’t quite work in Midjourney.
I’ll be expanding on this workflow in the Level 2 AI Filmmaking Course, where I’ll dive deeper into the SOPs and training materials that can turn ChatGPT into a reliable production partner. With these resources, you’ll be able to create high quality Midjourney prompts more efficiently.
