Need advice from the community regarding retainers

Context : Have been running my own personal branding strategy+ lead Gen agency for high ticket Solopreneurs, agencies and founders . Had upskilled in the last 2 months in the ai automation space and been doing one off projects for agencies and smb's such as helping them in streamlining them their onboarding process , sorting out lead management systems , creating custom crms and project management crms in Monday , clickup , upwork jobs generator for staffing agencies etc

Could you guys help me to understand the whole retainer agreements in all entirety and how to upsell , cross sell etc

Ps : I understand it's a lot but any help /tips would be amazing.
