What are your main writing struggles right now?
I'd love to get to know you and your current work-in-progress! What's your current writing project, and what are your main struggles right now with that project? Struggles could be creative, could be life-related, could be body, mind, heart, soul — anything that's keeping you from making your envisioned progress.

@Ames Granados I can relate to this. What you're saying is what I've been feeling about "writer's block." I'm so fed up with the refrain to "just write," when in the throes of writer's block, as it's beyond creative block or procrastination... sending ❤️ your way.

@Rebecca Erlewein Yep. I'm leading a writing group and I've been spending more time writing up prompts, researching resources, etc than actually doing my own writing. I am just accepting this is what it is for now. 💜
The daily pet thread
I thought it might be nice to have a daily pet thread. Here's Daphne, whom some of you might already know about. She's about 11 years old and an incredible sweetie (unless you're another dog or the USPS).

A belated birthday bouquet for Esme. All flowers from our garden. 💖
What are you reading?
Right now, I’m reading and rereading Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail, which is a comfort read for me—a sapphic romance novel. It’s interesting to go outside of my usual genres; I never read romance novels until very recently. At the same time, I’m reading a forthcoming memoir by Morgan Parker. What are you reading, and how are you feeling/thinking about it?

I just listened to "Witch of Wild Things" by Raquel Vasquez Gilliland. Latinx magical realism romance. It's a very sweet novel, definitely a tear jerker, trigger warning teenage sibling death. The MC's gift is communicating with plants, the descriptions of her connections with plants was lovely.

I just read "Refire" by E.J. Hopps . It's her first book, she self-published, it's available on Amazon. Hopps is a neighbor of mine but I don't know her very well. I was excited to read it and pushed myself to write a short review (book reviews are SO HARD for me...) It's set in San Francisco, Michelin star chefs in competition in an enemies to lovers romance.. Content warning in my review below. "Refire" by E.J. Hopps Sweet. Sexy. Smart. Wow, this is impressive for a first book! Juicy, magnetic and lovable characters. An electric simmering slow burn, in this competitive foes to lovers story… Also the relationship between the main femme, Evie, and her boss/father of main male, Max, is heartwarming. I appreciate Hopps weaving in of serious themes; sexism in the restaurant world, grief, cancer, and addiction. I’ve been left curious and yearning for more… what was the wonderful dish Evie made for her interview? And when did Evie have time to shop for such fabulous sounding clothes?
Struggling with Exploring a Specific Idea
Hi ya’ll! Life has been very chaotic lately. But there has been some relief in the past few days and my “weekend” has started. And I really want to write something! I’ve written several essays… but they feel very vulnerable. Well, tbh, nonfiction I find is a very vulnerable subject and I don’t want to bear my wounds, relationships, and the like to people. I have been interested in writing fiction, but I have no idea what to write. I started a few stories, but they don’t light me up and I’ve abandoned them. How do you guys find a story that lights you up consistently? I’ve thought about forms of stories recently too; how I don’t have to write a novel per se, it could be a novel in verse, short story collection, graphic novel. I’m reading as diversely and as often as I can to find something that resonates with me… but once again, I am not finding anything to inspire me to write. All I know is that I have something to say. I just don’t know what it is or how to start. Any tips would be great. Thanks!

Here's an adaptation of a writing prompt we did in my epilepsy writing group recently: Quick write in the vein of a fantasy, Disney movie, anime, video game, or futurism themed. A fictionalized version of what happens when you're (or fictionalized you) having a chronic illness flare or are sick. Other than necessary medical intervention what and how are you recovering? Is someone care taking you? What are they doing for you? What small thing helps in a big way. What big thing only helps a little?
