I'm currently in the Discover phase in my design spiral and I'd like to poke your brains on finding inspirational and cool examples in nature for my gift community design idea that I might not yet have explored. Some of my biologize prompts are... How does nature give and take? (Intentionally vs passively) How does nature cooperate within the same species? Different species? How does nature manage resources? How does nature coordinate systems? My 2 favorite examples so far are: Hermit crabs exchanging shells by creating a line of small to big shells (intentional) Mycorrhizal fungi exchanging nutrients between trees in a forest - The Wood Wide Web (passive) Any organisms come to mind? Hi all! Just wanted to introduce myself to the group and get connected (-: I personally know Bryon from the Launchpad program and had to join in on the fun I've been hearing about. I'm currently a sustainable design student at MCAD where I'm going for my MA. My thesis project is orientated on a "gift" community to redefine our relationship with our selves, products, each other, and nature. The core sustainable challenge I'm trying to solve is overconsumption, but really I'd like the community to be a place of connection and intention. I'm looking to nature to learn about intentional and passive give / receive systems. This is something I'd like to realize after I graduate, so I'd be curious to learn about funding opportunities as well. Byron also mentioned a discussion regarding how biomimicry can influence intentional community development - I'd love to learn more! I'm also working as a Marketing Manager for a non-profit conservation company called Wildlife Forever here in MN. Excited to be part of this group and looking forward to learning!
