Vulnerability and Authenticity on the internet. How much is too much?
I saw a YouTube video yesterday about a woman going viral because she wrote a break up song about her boyfriend who had her move across the country and and showed videos of the guy and their relationship during the process. She covered his face. In the video the commentator said that she didn't think it was appropriate to do that and people have become too comfortable sharing vulnerability like this on the internet. And I was just in the middle of editing my video titled "I recorded a song after crying my eyes out". I had taken a picture of my eyes when I woke up the next day because they were so puffy. I had planned to use it in the video to show that I really cried my eyes out! It's honestly not a flattering picture at all but this was goin to be my attempt at being authentic on social media to hopefully have a deeper connection with viewers. Anyway, despite my hesitation I decided to include that in the video and no one seems to care. Someone actually said that the video inspired them to write so that made me feel really good! Anyway, I'd love to know your thoughts on vulnerability it music and on social media. I thought we were the ones who get a pass! haha And if you're interested in hearing the song or seeing the writing process, it's attached and I'd love any feedback! (I suck at mixing so yes the mix will sound not great haha)
