These are seed pods from a desert bush in my yard. After the bloom the dry and curl tightly so that they easily blow or travel with weather.

@Jan-Peter van Wermeskerken I think it was crows and not the crowd. Exotic birds raised in captivity cannot protect themselves.

@Gulam K Welcome! I have a background in EdTech although a few years back and am very interested in nature improving mental health. Prescott College has a great certificate in that area.
