I agree with Donna, what works for me is to understand all of my "obligations" to the guitar and my pursuit of bettering myself, BUT I need to stay motivated, and when I'm not motivated, sometimes the "obligations" are not going to help. I look for new songs, new bands and songs from different genres, eras, styles, and even instrumentation...sometimes I will learn a vocal or saxophone melody, sometimes just a cool new lick will get me back on track, sometimes hanging with other musicians and talking about guitar and such helps, sometimes going to see a band or music performance, point is, all the obligations mean nothing if we aren't motivated to pick the guitar up.
