About 10 years ago, a client reached out asking if we could create an eCommerce website. We said, "Of course, let’s set up a meeting to go over the details." So, we meet, and early in the conversation, he casually asks, “Would you have any problem putting up some... well, let's say, risky pictures?” I pause, unsure where this is going. He quickly clarifies, “Nothing illegal! Just, you know, a little... borderline.” I nod, cautiously, and say, “Well, as long as it’s not illegal, we’d need to review it carefully, but sure.” Then, just as I’m getting comfortable, he throws in, “How about MMA fighting? Could we have that on the site?” Again, I repeat my favourite phrase of the meeting: “As long as it’s not illegal, we can consider it. But we’ll need to take a closer look at the details.” The conversation continues, with the requests creeping ever closer to questionable territory. At this point, I’m half expecting him to ask if we could set up a pirate-themed casino. But we keep going, and I stay professional. Finally, as I’m getting into my car, ready to make my escape, he leans through the window and says, “Just one last thing—if we wanted to host dog fighting on the website, would you be comfortable with that?” And that was the end of our meeting.
