Hi all, Firstly, I didn't want to become a basketball coach. However, after seeing the lack of respect that the new generation has which I blame on society and this soft (feelings) approach, I decided to get involved. My coach when i was young was very direct with me, I was respectful to those around me and I believe he knew more than me and most importantly wanted to help me get better. I've been implementing a more direct approach and setting expectations for my under 14s team, which is they don't adhere to basic etiquette whilst training or on game day (to team mates, coaches, referees opponents etc) they get punishment drills. This has worked very well well 90% of the team with a few more kinks to ironed out with the remaining 10%. It's only been about 5 weeks since I took them on and the changes are noticeable already. My goal is to help these kids who soon are becoming young adults, become good people in the community. Always looking to help others & to be competitive but respectful. Most importantly to align themselves with how God wants us to be. Basketball is a great way to teach kids what I mentioned earlier with the many tests that come with playing (bad referee decisions, opponents doing or saying things to get under your skin, team mates who test your patience etc), coach saying something you don't agree with. It's how you deal with these situations. I look forward to learning more from you all!! I hope you got something out of this! Thank you for reading
