Would love to Scott - but with the time difference it would be Monday at 5am here! My kids would likely have already woken me - but we'll be doing the classic morning routines with packing school lunches and getting out the door.
Self-Care Sunday: The Critical Importance of Quality Sleep for Our Health and Well-being 🌜
This week's Self Care Sunday is all about a topic that I have struggled with myself. As some of you know, I have been very sick this week and, in my opinion, the illness can be traced back to just over a week ago when I went out of town for work and didn't sleep well at all. Upon returning home, I felt "off" and a couple days later, I ended up falling ill and have experienced the worst sickness that I have felt in years. With this in mind, I wanted to share some valuable insights that I have learned in the last 6 months, into why getting a good night's sleep is not just a luxury—it's a crucial component of our overall health and well-being. This is a topic that has been extensively researched by Professor Matthew Walker, a leading expert in the field of sleep science. His work has shed light on the profound impact that sleep has on our lives, and I believe his findings can help us all lead better, more energized lives. Why Quality Sleep Matters Matthew Walker, the author of "Why We Sleep," presents compelling evidence that sleep is foundational to our physical and mental health. According to Walker, lack of sufficient sleep can affect our cognitive functions, emotional well-being, and physical health in far-reaching ways, including increased risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and a weakened immune system. Creating a Relaxing Bedtime Routine One of Walker's key recommendations is establishing a relaxing pre-sleep routine to help signal to our brains that it's time to wind down. This can include activities like reading, meditating, or taking a warm bath. Avoiding screens and blue light exposure from phones or computers before bed is also crucial as they can significantly disrupt our natural sleep-wake cycles. Designing a Comfortable Sleep Environment The environment in which we sleep plays a vital role in the quality of our sleep. Walker suggests making sure our bedrooms are cool, quiet, and dark. Investing in a comfortable mattress and pillows can also make a significant difference. Remember, your bedroom should be a sanctuary for sleep.

Motivational Monday: A Fighter's Heart: The Sylvester Stallone Journey to Stardom
Good morning, everyone! Today, for Motivational Monday, let's draw inspiration from a story that seems straight out of a Hollywood script, yet it's the real-life tale of Sylvester Stallone. His journey to success is a vivid illustration of how unwavering perseverance and faith in one’s own dreams can turn the tide of fate. Before Sylvester Stallone became synonymous with iconic characters like Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, he faced numerous rejections and lived in the depths of poverty. Stallone had a rough start in life; born with a partially paralyzed face, he struggled with speech and self-esteem issues. When he moved to New York to pursue acting, success was far from immediate. He encountered rejection after rejection and at one point, was so destitute that he was forced to sell his beloved dog, Butkus, because he couldn't afford to feed him. The turning point came when Stallone saw a Muhammad Ali fight and was inspired to write the screenplay for "Rocky." He wrote the script in an astonishing three days. However, the path to getting it made into a movie was fraught with challenges. Stallone was determined to play the lead role, despite offers from producers to buy the script without him. He held out, even though he had little money and was struggling to survive. Finally, a production company agreed to make the movie with Stallone as the star, albeit with a drastically reduced budget. "Rocky" went on to become a massive success, winning three Oscars, including Best Picture, and catapulting Stallone to fame. More importantly, it allowed him to reclaim his beloved dog, Butkus. Stallone's story teaches us the importance of believing in ourselves and our dreams, even when the world seems to be against us. He faced rejection, poverty, and doubt, yet he never gave up on his vision for "Rocky." His journey is a powerful reminder that with determination, resilience, and a bit of grit, we can overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. As we start this week, let's channel our inner Stallone. Let's not be discouraged by setbacks or rejections. Instead, let's keep pushing forward, holding onto our dreams with unwavering faith and determination. Remember, it’s not about how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.

I absolutely love this story Scott! I actually didn't know that this is what he went through until you mentioned it in your LiveCast the other day! I can certainly think of various different moments where it's felt like life is against me but I've beaten the odds anyway. When I was only 14 I was suffering EVERY single month with pain that would last 10-15 days each month. Dr's told me this was "normal" and I fought for years and years to get a diagnosis, my youth was not on my side, nobody believed me. Finally - at 19, after 5 years of battling medical professionals, I was rushed into an emergency surgery because I had an 8cm cyst burst in my left ovary. After that surgery it was confirmed I suffered from chronic Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Endometriosis. They placed a Mirena IUD inside me (the surgeons recommendation for being the ideal thing to manage my pain monthly). 2 years later, that perforated my uterus and I was chronically unwell and rushed back into hospital for treatment, where they surgically removed my IUD and told me I wouldn't ever be able to have children. 2 healthy pregnancies + 2 natural and completely unassisted births later - it's safe to say that Western Medicine didn't get the upper hand on me!
