Broadway Cooks -- Something you can do to help! ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿณ
Today is @Rose Van Dyne 's birthday, and instead of a dirty martini, she's asking for -- Take it away, Rose ---- "would you consider donating $10 to an organization I co-founded called Broadway Cooks? Our next event is scheduled for July 14th. We are hoping to raise $500 to make 150-200 meals! You can check out @BroadwayCooks on Instagram to see some of the things we've done in the past. If you're wanting to donate, you can Venmo me @Rose-VanDyne, or donate to this GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/feeding-in-the-theater-district Getting the opportunity to give back is truly the best thing I could want for my birthday. Thank you for helping me do that!!" _________ Broadway Cooks partners with organizations in New York City to provide fresh food for houseless community members in the Theatre District and the five boroughs in collaboration with performers, producers, creatives, and institutions within the Broadway theatre industry and beyond. We reallocate excess food from catered events and conferences, as well as cook homemade meals funded through directed donations and grants. With a strive towards sustainability and inclusion, our goals are to further integrate the theatre industry into its surrounding community while providing meals that are rooted in the culture of the communities being served.

@Linda Donnell hi Linda! I co-founded this organization with a friend of mine, as a way to get the theatre community more involved in service for those in need in NYC. Happy to talk to you more about it!

@Linda Donnell I feel the same way. We are always taking donations to buy ingredients to hand out meals and hygiene kits! 100% of the money goes directly back out to aiding the community. Feel free to message me anytime if youโ€™re interested!
Teacher Feature -- Rose Van Dyne
There's a corner of this community where there's a list of TERRIFIC teachers with experience, perspective, solutions, and tools. I want this to be a place where you have access to some of the best hearts and minds teaching musical theatre singing. Today's feature -- @Rose Van Dyne (I'm going in reverse alphabetical order) Rose is a terrific teacher, fantastic singer and performer, an accomplished music director, and top notch pianist. I had the privilege of working with Rose in BoCo's MFA Pedagogy program. She's brilliant, resourceful, a solution finder, works with intention and grit, and is a great artist for you to know. Her website is here -- https://www.rosevandyne.com/

Love you Dan!!!
Do yourself every favor
I'm singing a concert tomorrow with a local wind and brass ensemble, and the piece I'm singing has ever-changing time signatures. At rehearsal this week I thought oh I can read music I should be fine on this counting. I made a few mistakes. So I literally went through my music and wrote the number of beats on every measure, and at the dress rehearsal today I literally counted using my fingers against my folder. I sang it well, and all the rhythms were precise. My brain thought "if you were a real musician you wouldn't need to write these counts out and you would be able to just to feel the internal pulse without counting on your fingers like a second grader." -- messages I picked up from various teachers and professors. Truth is I needed the numbers in my score and I needed my fingers to count so that I could know where I actually was. It worked, and it made me feel confident, and I did good work. Are there things that you tell yourself you shouldn't need? What if you gave them to yourself? Do yourself every favor.

I do this all the time, Dan! Everybody I know does! Whoever doesnโ€™t is just kidding themselves to think they can at a glance be perfect. Why bother having measure lines at all, thenโ€ฆ
Getting to know you ๐ŸŽถ
Hey Theatre Singer! ๐ŸŽญ Welcome to Dan Callaway Studio -- This community helps theatre singers sing great, audition beautifully, get to work, and create a wholehearted life through top-notch tools. We encourage each other, stoke generosity, and remember there's only one you, and somebody needs to her the story only you can sing. STEP 1: Introduce yourself below! (โœ‚๏ธ copy paste these questions ๐Ÿ‘‡) ๐Ÿ“ Where are you from? and/or Where do you live now? ๐ŸŽต What song(s) are you currently working on? ๐Ÿฆ„ Wave a magic wand and make one thing about your artist life true. What would happen? STEP 2: Read the rules and find out what you can start using in the classroom.

๐Ÿ“ Where are you from? and/or Where do you live now? Iโ€™m from Colorado born and raised! Now living in Harlem, NYC ๐ŸŽต What song(s) are you currently working on? Iโ€™m working on a show right now so there are some songs in there Iโ€™m rehearsing, but otherwise I donโ€™t have any specific songs Iโ€™m singing just for myself. Maybe I should get one! ๐Ÿฆ„ Wave a magic wand and make one thing about your artist life true. What would happen? I would love to have autonomy over my ability to perform - I get to pick when and where! Rather than always being at the whim of getting cast.
