Why mission is more important than goals...
In business we use objectives and key results, in life we talk of mission and goals, they are essentially the same thing. Everyone I work with is always asked the same question, what do you want to achieve? That is creating a mission / objective. A common response could be "I want to achieve financial stability within 12 months". That is specific on the timeframe though vague on the objective. So we dig deeper, financial stability means an income of $120,000 pa for that person. That allows them to buy a home, save for a college fund for their kids, take a course so that they can start a business. It could be anything. The response is I want X so that I can do why, you can do deeper why is Y so important to you? The goals are what keep you aligned to that mission and everything you do has to be congruent with that mission, no distractions. Goals then come into play which allow that mission / objective to be met. They also need to be specific. It could be taking a new job to earn that money, paying down debt, ending / beginning relationships. Taking free courses first. The mission is the overarching theme which everything else follows. What is your 12 month mission and what goals have you set / accomplished in getting there?

My mission is to live life abundantly, thanks Ed for helping me discover it and for sharing your wording. And also to help other live abundant, fulfilled, and healthy lives. My definition of Abundance is an ability to have choice, regardless of circumstance. Thus abundance is a state of mind not a physical reality. My goals are abundant and prosperous relationships with my wife, kids, family, and friends. Abundant physical energy and health, abundance contribution to my clients, staff, and community. And abundant financial state. all of then had metrics which I used to evaluate, assess, and if necessary iterate my approach.
Being 'stuck' is a reflection of a state of mind rather than an unsolvable problem...
When I hear someone say I am 'stuck', it could be in a relationship, a business decision, what career, passion or purpose to pursue or may something more simple, it just means that the system they are applying to solve the problem is not working. Often this is as a result of a binary mindset - "I need to decide between X or Y". Being stuck is an expression of the inability to explore another solution by applying the same system that may have worked before though no longer works today, or just not having a system to apply at all. So what happens is your mind takes over and churns through the same process over and over again, hence 'being stuck'. The solution - stop, slow down, engage creative thinking, opening the mind and heart to other opportunities. Asking deeper questions, what am I trying to solve, what is the result I desire the most, what information do I have already. Do I have any conditioned bias? The mind will trick and manipulate the heart every second of the day, every day of the week - if you allow it. So now we need to feel into the answer, allow intuition to arise, then reflect and observe. Don't force the outcome, it will arrive when you are calm and open to exploring. You will need more information. The other part is the state of harmony - the mood states - that exists when trying to solve the problem. An extreme or false high or a low mood state will impact the decision making and the ability to make any decision, certainly a wise informed one. Hence again why we need to slow down, be able to observe, feel and reflect opening our channel to infinite creativity. Meditate and breathe. (yes there are other steps though binary thought is the main killer of creativity and problem solving) Thoughts, how do you get unstuck?

Ed as usual, you’re spot on! I was stuck, and your guidance help me see other alternative, live life with a “and” mindset not an “or” binary mindset. I learned that the reason I was stuck was my on perspectives, expectations, beliefs, and habitual emotional responses. The antidote for me was identifying limiting beliefs, eliminating them, opening my mind and heart to all possibilities, assigning new meaning to the event or circumstances that I felt trapped in, and living in a state of gratitude.
Accountability is the first gateway to transformation, what is the second?
I am curious what do you think is the second key you have to find to unlock change. I was having this discussion this week about someone who cannot move past step 1 as much as they really want to. Do you even think that change is sequential? There are certainly hoops we have to jump through to evolve, let go and create a different journey, to find that personal freedom we all crave as humans. Here are a few options: 1. Changing Your Environment - physical, spiritual, emotional 2. Curiosity - the willingness to explore 3. Letting Go of fear, limiting beliefs, patterns 4. Slowing Down includes meditation / breathwork 5. Accepting only we can change ourselves. These are all parts of the process and there are many more. One of them is more foundational. Thoughts? (and I will explain it later)

I suggest that the second step to change is a clear decision, a point of not going back, burn the bridges. With a sense of self-accountability (or peer-accountability) and a steadfast decision the next step is action.
